To class or not to class...

This week, there was a mini-break, where some schools give their students a break and some don't.  According to the schedule, Paris 7 does not, so due to my classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays there, I had to stay in Paris for the week.  Silly me, thinking that schedules mean something.  As it turns out, I showed up to both classes, the only one there, feeling (and probably looking) like a fool.  So, as nice as it was having no class this week, it would have been a lot nice knowing that in advance!
Since last Thursday, I have gone on many adventures.  Last Friday night, we went to Musée Quai Branly, which was super interesting and definitely merits a second (and possibly third) visit.  We went to the expo on "Le sauvage" and how, as a society, we have defined a "savage."  The things that I saw were nearly unbelievable: back in the day (not very long ago), more developed countries just treated the people from the less developed ones like animals, on display at carnivals and theaters alike.  Makes you cringe how short sighted people were and still are.

This week has been a lot of Paris cruising, with all the free time I have.  Jacob and I visited the Musée Jeu de Paume, and saw a temporary expo on Ai Weiwei, one of my favorite exhibits so far.  He is a chinese photographer that combines art and protest perfectly, while still helping do amazing things like design the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium, that was used for the 2008 Beijing Games.  Although I have no pictures from it, it is burned into my memory.
Also, went to the Louvre again, this time to see some Greek/Roman sculptures.  Twas amazing, of course, and I am still no where near close to exploring how deep that rabbit hole goes, even after four visits of at least two hours.
Last but not least: THERE ARE HINTS OF SPRING.  And I now understand why everyone is all up-in-arms about Paris in the spring time.  When I went to Jardin de Tuilleries when it was warm and sunny, there were at least 5 times as many people than when I have been in the past.  Can't wait for things to go green.
Tuilleries, packed and happy

Venus de Milo, so casual, so famous

  1. That good looking building? Its the Grand Palais (des Champs Elysees). They often hold exhibitions there worth checking out. Once I saw one of Crown Jewels there, and another that was 100% Matisse. Good stuff - but the Crown Jewels blew my mind!

  2. Addendum to the above comment... I just saw that there's currently an exhibition at the Grand Palais - that unidentified good looking building - its called the Art Fair de Paris 2012 or some such, but in any case, it looked interesting... just thought I'd pass that on. :)
